1. The working principle and characteristics of centrifugal pump, before the pump starts, the pump and the inlet pipe are filled with water. After the pump is running, under the action of centrifugal force generated by high-speed rotation of impeller, the water in impeller passage is thrown around and pressed into volute, and the inlet of impeller forms vacuum. Water in pool is sucked along suction pipe under external atmospheric pressure to supplement this space. Then the water inhaled is thrown out by the impeller and enters the outlet pipe through the volute. It can be seen that if the impeller of the centrifugal pump is continuously rotating, it can continuously absorb water and pressure water, and the water can be continuously lifted from the low to the high or far away. To sum up, the centrifugal pump is due to the centrifugal force generated by the high-speed rotation of the impeller, which will lift the water to a high place, so it is called centrifugal pump.

2. General characteristics of centrifugal pump

(1) The flow direction of water along the centrifugal pump is along the axial suction of the impeller, which is perpendicular to the axial outflow, that is, the direction of water flow in and out is 90 ° to each other.  

(2) Because the centrifugal pump relies on the impeller inlet to form vacuum suction, so before starting, it is necessary to inject water into the pump and the suction pipe, or use the vacuum pump to exhaust air to form a vacuum. Moreover, the pump shell and suction pipeline must be strictly sealed without air leakage, otherwise, the vacuum can not be formed and water can not be sucked.

(3) Because it is impossible to form absolute vacuum at the impeller inlet, the suction height of the centrifugal pump can not exceed 10 m. In addition, the actual allowable installation height (the height between the pump axis and the suction water surface) is far less than 10 m due to the loss along the way caused by water flow through the suction pipeline. If the installation is too high, it will not absorb water; in addition, because the atmospheric pressure in the mountain area is lower than that in the plain area, the installation height of the same water pump in the mountain area, especially in the high mountain area, should be reduced, otherwise it can not absorb water.
